Goofball Comedy: 10 Upcoming Foolishly Silly Comedy Movies In 2013

2012 was not, it has to be said, the best year for big-screen comedy. But 2013 is looking a little brighter - and not just because of the stupid grown up sequel "Grown Ups 2" is coming out.

Laughter is good for health as we know and what better way to laugh than watching some good goofball comedy movies. They provide entertainment and amusement to everyone regardless of age. It’s time for us to check for crazy and foolishly silly comedy movies coming out this year. In 2012, we had "American Reunion", forgettable "Men In Black 3", "21 Jump Streets", "The Three Stooges", one of the underrated movies of 2012 "The Campaign" and a lot more. What this year has in store for us?

It’s been a rough year for comedies, so any time audiences flock to a movie designed to make them laugh is excellent news.  Forget the disappointment of "The Hangover III" and look forward to other crazy and silly comedy flicks that are coming your way this year.

10. Arrested Development (2013)

"Arrested Development finally gets a concluding chapter on the big screen!"

Director Mitchell Hurwitz's "Arrested Development" starring Jeffrey Tambor, David Cross, Jason Bateman, Portia de Rossi and Michael Cera. 9. Anchorman: The Legend Continues (DEC 20TH, 2013)

"The Legend of Ron Burgundy continues with part 2!"

Will Ferrell is back as the one and only Ron Burgundy, legendary newscaster for the Channel 4 Evening News.

Director Adam McKay (Step Brothers) also returns as does most of the beloved cast of the first film. McKay has stated that the plot of Anchorman: The Legend Continues involves the rise of new media and the 24 hour news cultism that is today. He maintains that although he’s got a luring point to make, the sequel will be as idiotic as ever - containing a musical number or two along the way, of course. A perfect piece of comedy to look forward to this year.

8. Delivery Man (NOV 22ND, 2013)

6. Walk Of Shame (SEP 20TH, 2013)

"Elizabeth Banks endure the aftermath of a catastrophic night out"

Director Steven Brill's "Walk Of Shame" starring James Marsden, Oliver Hudson, Ethan Suplee, Willie Garson and Kevin Nealon. "Walk of Shame" centers on an antsy news anchor (Elizabeth Banks) who has to endure the particularly ugly aftermath of a wild night out. When Ashburn has to team up with short-tempered and crass Det. Joyce Nelson (Melissa McCarthy) to take down a Mexican druglord the heat is on…

Melissa McCarthy gave her breakthrough performance in director Paul Feig’s surprise hit Bridesmaids. Here’s hoping The Heat contains as many outrageous moments as their last collaboration!

2. The Internship (JUN 7TH, 2013)

"Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson as 40 year old interns!"

Director Shawn Levy's "Internship" starring John Goodman, Vince Vaughn, Will Ferrell, Owen Wilson and Aasif Mandvi. When two forty-something corporate types (Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson) lose their jobs they are forced to leave their cozy lifestyle behind and enter the cut-throat world of a Google internship. They arrive at the tech company completely unprepared for the kind of competitiveness in store for them.

Preview: 10 Pieces Of Information About Brad Pitt's World War Z

"World War Z" is an upcoming 2013 apocalyptic zombie thriller film based on 2006's "World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War", a post-apocalyptic horror novel by Max Brooks. It is a follow-up to his 2003 book, "The Zombie Survival Guide." Similar in style to War Day by Whitley Strieber, World War Z was inspired by "The Good War," an oral history of World War II by Studs Terkel; and by the zombie films of George A. Romero. Brooks used World War Z to comment on government ineptitude and American isolationism, while also examining Survivalism and uncertainty.

WORLD WAR Z POST APOCALYPTIC POSTER

The most reviews of Brooks’ book routinely mentioned its built-in cinematic allure. The raw material was all there. All Hollywood had to do was follow the manual and hire a filmmaker with some genre card. Just think of all the fantasmagoric flourish Sam Raimi, Guillermo Del Toro, or Joss Whedon might have brought to this project.

If you were producing “World War Z,” which filmmaker would you enlist to ensure victory?

10. A total of 85 machine guns, rifles and pistols to be used for filming scenes in Hungary were confiscated by counterterrorism customs officers in Budapest, Hungary after being flown in from London. The props, which are owned by an English company, were to be used in filming. The Hungarian authorities said the guns could be activated by simply removing screws filling the end of the barrels.

9. Hungarian law requires weapons to be deactivated only if the process of making them live is irreversible. Weapons supervisor, Bela Gajdos, on the movie commented that a permit for the weapons had been issued by Hungarian police. Reports claimed that main actor Brad Pitt was "furious" at the seizure but the producers have said it has not delayed filming.

8. In April 2010, Paramount Studios renewed its option on the movie rights. Filming finally commenced mid-2011. World War Z was initially slated for release by Paramount Pictures on December 21, 2012. In March 2012, the film's release was pushed back to June 21, 2013.

7. We cited the Paramount press release for our earlier report on the World War Z‘s release date, but it was other sites like /Film and Movies.com that first picked up on the bombshell packed in the film synopsis that came with Paramount’s announcement:

The story revolves around United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself.

6. Paramount Pictures acquired screen rights to the Max Brooks novel "World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War." Brooks' follow-up to satire "The Zombie Survival Guide" sparked a bidding battle, with Warner Bros. And Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way on the other side of the table from Paramount and Brad Pitt's Plan B. Also, Ed Harris and 'Bryan Cranston (I)' were originally cast in the movie, but both dropped out due to scheduling conflicts.

Early screenings of "World War Z" for select audiences have produced some positive reviews - "It's everything you want in a blockbuster – smart, shifty, and scary as hell."

5. Filming took place in several areas of the UK including Cornwall, England where the UN control room scene was filmed alongside scenes on the Ministry of Defense Primary Casualty Receiving Facility (PCRF), RFA Argus (AS on the flight-deck). Filming also took place in Glasgow, Scotland to the streets made to look like those in Philadelphia with many American cars, trucks, taxis and street signage shipped in from the USA. Also filming took place in Valletta, Malta.

4. With a notably versatile range of films to his credit, Director Marc Forster has persistently evaded categorization, having helmed a slate of major motion pictures of varying scale and genres for studios and independents alike, starring many of the industry’s premier talent. He is best known for directing the films Monster's Ball, Finding Neverland, Stranger than Fiction, The Kite Runner and Quantum of Solace.

3. In the beginning of the trailer released in March 2013 while Brad Pitt's family is having breakfast the radio in the background mentions a flight which landed without permission before martial law is declared in Russia. This is likely the infamous (in zombie lore) Flight 575 which, after landing, disgorged its passengers which had all been turned.

2. In January 2012, director Marc Forster and Paramount Pictures said they "each view World War Z as a trilogy that would have the grounded, gun-metal realism of Matt Damon's Jason Bourne series tethered to the unsettling end-times vibe of AMC's The Walking Dead."

BRAD PITT IN WORLD WAR ZOMBIE STILL 640PX

1. In June 2006, the movie rights for "World War Z" were secured by Paramount Studios for Brad Pitt's production company, Plan B Entertainment to produce. The screenplay was written by J. Michael Straczynski, with Marc Forster directing, and Pitt starring as the main character, UN employee Gerry Lane. Despite being the draft that got the film green-lit, Straczynski's script was tossed aside, so that production, which was to begin at the start of 2009, was delayed while the script was completely re-written by Matthew Michael Carnahan to set the movie in the present, leaving behind much of the premise of the book to make it more of an action film.

Untitled Marvel's Avenger 2: 10 Subtitles To Choose From

Now that we have a release date for Marvel's "The Avengers" sequel, attention can turn towards the next big step: naming the damn thing!

Marvel Studios already hyped their highly-anticipated sequel to the No. 3 highest grossing film of all time, “Marvel's The Avengers,” as another “big cinematic moment.” And expected to feature the reassembly of iconic Marvel super heroes Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye, Black Widow & Nick Fury taking on a new unknown enemy, new additions to the superhero team up of a lifetime are possible.

Starring Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Samuel L. Jackson, and directed by Joss Whedon from a screenplay by Joss Whedon, “Marvel’s The Avengers” sequel is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “The Avengers,” first published in 1963 and a comics institution ever since. And set for release May 1, 2015, the film is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. In addition to the sequel, Marvel Studios will release a slate of films based on the Marvel characters including “Iron Man 3” on May 3, 2013; “Thor: The Dark World ” on November 8, 2013; “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” on April 4, 2014; and “Guardians of the Galaxy” on August 1, 2014.

Joss Whedon's follow-up to his superhero hit has yet to receive an official title. At the moment, Disney is referring to it as UNTITLED MARVEL'S AVENGERS SEQUEL, which clearly won't stick. But what should the sequel title be? Should they just tack on a "2" and call it a day, or should Marvel continue the trend they've recently established with subtitles like "The Dark World" for the "Thor" sequel and "The Winter soldier" for the "Captain America"?

Read on 10 Title suggestions for the next "The Avengers 2" film's title.

According to Collider website, Steve recently spoke with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, and during their extended conversation Feige talked quite a bit about how Iron Man 3 gives audiences an idea of what to expect from The Avengers 2.  He also talked about writer/director Joss Whedon’s script for the follow-up (which he described as hilarious, awesome, and moving) and whether or not the film will have a subtitle.

Speaking specifically to The Avengers 2, Feige said their focus—as always—is on character and even added that the character-centric scenes in Whedon’s script top the first movie:

We’ve been consistent in talking about this leading up to The Avengers: what is most interesting to us and why we hired Joss Whedon in the first place is the interaction between the characters.  That’s more fun to us than the massive action scenes that are gonna have to come with it that we’re gonna have to figure out, and we’re gonna have to be clever and raise the bar, but already the scenes that Joss has of just the characters sitting around and interacting are hilarious and are awesome and are moving and a notch or two above the first movie, and to me that’s where you wanna top yourself.

Those are strong words from Feige, but if anybody can top Whedon’s work on The Avengers, it’s Whedon himself.

Steve also took the opportunity to ask Feige if The Avengers sequel will be called The Avengers 2 or if it will have a subtitle, and the Marvel executive seems keen on the latter:

I would say that if you look at the trend of our upcoming movies, Iron Man 3 is the only one that has a number.  I like Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Star Wars: Return of the Jedi instead of Star Wars 2, Star Wars 3.

Oh For God's Sake! 10 Upcoming Spoof Films You Should Avoid

Who doesn't enjoy a good spoof or parody film. They're a good way of reminding you of something by making it funny or completely ruin it. But lately producers have been using spoofs as a cheap way to make some quick cash without trying too hard.

With the recent release of "A Haunted House" and "Scary Movie 5"– a parody of found-footage films like "Paranormal Activity" series and "The Devil Inside" – we're counting down some of the upcoming films the parody sub-genre has to offer. Although it has become harder and harder to find solid examples of parody talents like Mel Brooks (The Naked Gun series), David Zucker, and Jim Abrahams, we still think that the whole spoof movie concept can work when done right.

However, it's just as easy to deliver a parody that feels lazy and lacks any sort of comedic or satirical punch - just look at films like "Disaster Movie", "Epic Movie", and "Date Movie".

So we thought of producing a list of upcoming spoof films that will be released any time soon. Be aware of what you choose to watch, Don't tell me that I didn't warn you.

Graboid Video

10. 2012-ish: The Day The Earth Bent Over (TBA)

From Robert Moniot, director of the 2001 short Pearl Harbor II: Pearlmageddon comes a new spoof movie that looks to take on the apocalypse genre. Now I know what you're thinking; 'didn't we just see the release of Disaster Movie which was essentially the very same thing?

Here's the film's synopsis:

"A brilliant young scientist named Tom Mahoney fights to save the planet from a multitude of catastrophes that threaten mankind - in spite of the idiots that keep getting in his way: A bumbling President, a manic-depressive NASA shuttle commander, and a sexy reporter who can't keep her clothes on."

9. Dirty Step Stomp (TBA)

The Weinstein Company has picked up Dirty Step Stomp, Steve Basilone & Annie Mebane's spoof, setting it up with Benderspink. The movie will spoof such recent films as Stomp the Yard, Step Up and Save the Last Dance as well as the 1980s classics Footloose and Dirty Dancing. Chris Bender, Mason Novick and JC Spink will serve as producers.

8. Love at Second Bite (TBA)

"Love At Second Bite", a parody film produced by Morning Light Productions and a sequel to 1979's "Love At First Bite". It stars George Hamilton and David Steinberg as screenwriter (WTH). The storyline: "Twenty five years later, Dracula's Americanized son rejects his family's heritage and gets married to a human. Trouble begins when he learns that his vampire relatives are coming to America for the wedding."

7. Not Another Celebrity Movie (TBA)

"Not Another Celebrity" Movie adds a unique twist to the spoof genre as the talented cast portrays the big cinematic icons there are: the celebrities themselves. Packed with a star-studded crew of celebrity look-alikes, this parody of Oceans 11 follows the misguided antics of Charlie Sheen as he tries to meet with Justin Bieber, whom he believes is his illegitimate son. When his attempts to reconnect are thwarted, Sheen engages the services of Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Robert DeNiro, Tom Cruise and seven other celebrities implement a plot to kidnap the pop sensation at an upcoming concert at the Riviera Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The resulting antics are, in a word, Winning!

6. Sci-fi Movie (TBA)

David Zucker projects can’t possibly be as bad as the Friedberg/Seltzer ones. And yet, for a guy who was once a part of that legendary Zucker/Zucker/Abrahams team that brought us "Airplane", "Top Secret" and "The Naked Gun", he is definitely not doing himself any favors here. I just hate how generic these movies are getting… the original joke of calling the first one Scary Movie is now lost.

It’s only a matter of time before someone comes out with Spoof Movie. Plus I think they’re running out of genres to parody. According to Box Office Mojo, Sci-Fi Movie is currently slated for release on February 20th. I don’t think I’ll be marking that on my calendar.

5. The $40,000 Man (TBA)

"Bad Santa" director Terry Zwigoff has been handed the plans to "The $40,000 Man", as New Line has just hired him to direct the comedy spoof.

The company nabbed the spec script from John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein earlier in the year, which finds a true American astronaut hero who – in true Steve Austin style – is injured in a terrible accident and needs some serious bionic rebuilding. Sadly for him, the government’s coffers are seriously depleted, and the bargain bin bionics he’s fitted with aren’t exactly super-powered.

4. The Biggest Movie of All Time 3D (TBA)

Writers/directors Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer are set to bring a spoof of Avatar to the big screen, called The Biggest Movie of All Time 3D.

The duo who brought us Scary Movie, spoofing the teen horror genre, Date Movie, looking at the cliched romantic comedies, Epic Movie spoofing blockbusters, and Vampires Suck, making fun of the cultural phenomenon Twilight.

Now, it's time to bring another funny look at the biggest movie of all time, Avatar.  The duo has appropriately titled the new film The Biggest Movie of All Time 3D.

3. The Starving Games 2013 (TBA)

The team who brought you “Date Movie” and “Meet the Spartans” has decided to lampoon the biggest show in town with “The Starving Games.” Apparently the movie will also mock recent broad targets such as “Sherlock Holmes” and “Harry Potter,” to minimal comic effect. The movie will make millions of dollars based on name-recognition alone, granting the filmmakers the financial freedom to keep making insipid parodies until they die. There goes the twenty-first century.

2. They Came Together (TBA)

Wait, what?! We already know that Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd are leading a romantic comedy parody called They Came Together from Role Models and Wet Hot American Summer director David Wain from a script he co-wrote with fellow comedian and The Baxter director Michael Showalter.

The story follows Joel (Rudd) and Molly (Poehler) who meet and have nothing but contempt for each other as Joel's big corporation is the one that threatens to shut down Molly's quirky knick-knack store. But we're not sure where these first look photos of the romantic duo dressed up as Benjamin Franklin come into play. Look!

1.  A Haunted House 2 (MAR 28TH, 2014)

"A Haunted House 2" will be financed and produced by IM Global’s genre label Octane.

The other film scheduled for this same date is Darren Aronofsky's Noah.

In the first film, when newlyweds Malcolm (Marlon Wayans) and Kisha (Essence Atkins) move into their dream house, they quickly find they’re not alone. But it’s not the house that’s haunted, but his wife that is possessed with spirits – or as Malcolm calls it – “relationship baggage.” Malcolm hires everyone from a priest to modern day ghost busters to rid her of the demon, determined not to let the evil spirit ruin his marriage... Or his sex life for that matter.

Well, we went, we saw and we conquered. Of all the games in attendance, we parsed out the 10 titles that we thought would be the most interesting to our movie-minded readers. If you like flicks like “Star Trek,” “The Avengers,” “The Lord of the Rings,” “Super,” “Star Wars” or “The Amazing Spider-Man,” this list probably pertains to you.

The history of movies based on video games is a spotty one - and that's being generous. Even big-budget flicks like Angelina Jolie's "Tomb Raider", Jake Gyllenhaal's "Prince of Persia" or Mark Wahlberg "Max Payne" still left fans quite disappointed.

But after something of a break, Hollywood is gearing up to once again try its luck with the video game source material. From huge new franchises to some odd throwbacks, a handful of video game film adaptations are coming along in 2014 and the next couple of years. Which sound promising, and which should see a preemptive 'game over' screen?

10. Resident Evil 6 (SEP, 12TH 2014)

"The epic last chapter in the Resident Evil series!"

Resident Evil 6 Video Game To Movie 2014

Agent 47 will be written by Mike Finch and Skip Woods and directed by Aleksander Bach, a commercial director making his feature debut. Oddly enough, Woods also wrote the first movie for Gens and Olyphant.

A movie version of the popular role-playing game World of Warcraft, by Blizzard Entertainment has been in development for years. Sam Raimi () was initially attached as a director, but had to drop out because of his involvement in Oz The Great and Powerful. 7. Deus Ex (2015)

"The critically acclaimed cyberpunk video game is coming to the big screen"

Deus Ex will presumably take place in the year 2027, when big corporations have outgrown government control and hardware-enhanced body prosthetics are a common sight.

Possible The Amazing Spider-Man Trilogy - 10 Things To Perk Up The Franchise

"The Amazing Spider-Man 3" is the third installment in The Amazing Spider-Man trilogy after "The Amazing Spider-Man 2". It will be the most important film of the series so far. Since Marvel has officially confirmed that Andrew Garfield will star as Spidey in a trilogy, it is just a matter of time when we will get to see it‘s hopefully awesome conclusion.

With "The Amazing Spider-Man" performed considerably well — and better than a supposedly worried Sony had expected — we’re bound to hear news of a sequel (The Amazing Spider-Man 2 And 3) in the coming years. We already know the plans for a trilogy, but where that trilogy will actually go remains something of a mystery. The dull Peter Parker’s parent subplot/question will likely be answered, sure, but why not move away from this topic? Better yet, why not take a crack at all these suggestions below that I just know every exec at Sony is feverishly scribbling down? They may need to.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN MOVIE TRILOGY

Till now, we've seen plenty of Jamie Foxx as Electro in "The Amazing Spider-Man 2", but nothing of Paul Giamatti as The Rhino. Today we have our first look at Giamatti as Aleksei Sytsevich / The Rhino...sort of. It's actually a stunt double wearing a mask he stole from the set of DRIVE, or so it evokes. The mask is obviously made to represent Giamatti and his appearance certainly suggests the thuggish, Russian brute that is Sytsevich in the comics. In the below video, the folks at sevenwebheads give a CSI level breakdown of the set photos that's pretty convincing.

10. The action, from the incomprehensible subway fight to that face-slapper of a cartoon finale, was lackluster. Either Marc Webb needs to learn from this failure, or a capable second-unit team needs to be hired, or a well trained action director has to be brought in who can maintain Webb’s dramatic voice, but actually give us the prime summer spectacle.

9. Spider-Man doesn’t affect Peter Parker’s life all too much in the movie. In fact, all that comes from it is pretty great. Would a weird, awkward kid — who takes photos of girls from a distance, mind you — get a girl like Gwen Stacy without having super powers? Doubtful. If anything, Gwen was more into him because of his powers.

EMMA STONE GARFIELD ON SET ROMANCE IN THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN

8. Even for pure storytelling reasons, having Parker face off against a villain he does not know would raise the stakes. They have no connection or a previous relationship Peter could rely on to hopefully change their mind or appeal to their kinder, friendlier nature. Embrace having pure evil. The Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus were fantastic, but this iconic part of the Spider-Man comics has already grown tired in film form. How many people in Peter’s address book can turn evil?

7. The idea of an unknown villain makes for a smoother narrative, having the freedom not to deal with a buildup of a character taking a turn for the worst. Sometimes simple, broad villainous strokes are a good thing. They tried to add shades of grey to Doctor Connors, but it only muddled up the character and the film.

Also, for the love of God, give your villain a better plan than “Let’s turn the city into lizards!

6. This suggestion obviously contradicts the vulnerability complaint, but, seriously, why kill off your lucky charm so early? While Peter Parker keeps walking around moaning about his good looks and super powers, we need someone unafraid and willing to crack a smile in this world, and not much can touch the charm of an Emma Stone smile.

5. With the running time clocking in at two hours and seventeen minutes, The Amazing Spider-Man could have used a serious edit, either in the writing or editing booth. Apparently I’m not the only one who thinks that, as a major element was cut out: the answer to that untold story regarding Peter’s parents. What was left open to answer in the “trilogy” should just be exercised all together.

4. Whenever the film began to slow down, it usually involved Peter pining over this question. Do we really want to see our hero keep living in the past for three films? By the end of the movie Peter’s coming-of-age is well-rounded and he’s found a calling, but that post-credits sequence slaps that arc in the face with a head-scratching sequel flag. How powerful would it have been if Peter proclaimed he knows who he is by the end without having an answer for his parents’ disappearance?

RIHNO IN THE AMAZING SPIDER MAN VILLAIN

3. The previous mentioned subplot is a part of the film’s biggest problem: a meandering structure. With screenwriters Steve Kloves, James Vanderbilt, and Alvin Sargent involved, it was jarring to see The Amazing Spider-Man frequently wander from scene to scene, sometimes without any momentum to speak of. Taking your time with drama and the origin story is admirable, but not giving it a proper flow is not.

2. Stacy is in love with Peter from scene one, and perhaps the biggest question mark in the film remains: Why would she love this guy? He’s a mopey and awkward kid who, again, takes pictures of her without her knowing. It’s a purely tweeny, unserious live without much conflict. There is no drama between the two of them, it’s all gooey and dreamlike.

When drama is introduced by Captain Stacy asking Peter to stay away from her, two minutes later Peter, in a rather dick move, says, “To the hell with that dead, smarter, wiser old guy I made a promise to!” and gets back to his teenage romance.

1. There was far too much going on in The Amazing Spider-Man, which made for some fairly weak plotting: Spider-Man’s half-baked origin (who honestly got chills when he said “I’m Spider-Man”?), Doctor Connor’s uneven arc and ensuingly moronic plan, and — possibly the most botched part of the movie — that search for Uncle Ben’s killer.

Peter simply gives up his revenge quest without any rhyme or reason. There was no “I don’t need revenge” or an “I’ll avenge Ben through fighting evil!” realization. Much of the film, like its hero and its villain, has too many missing pieces. Next time around, know that simply ain’t such a bad thing.

10 Most Anticipated Historical Epic Movies In 2013, 2014, 2015 And Beyond

I love historical epic movies such as 1951 American epic film "Quo Vadis" directed by Mervyn LeRoy, 1963 British-American-Swiss epic drama film "Cleopatra" directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz, Stanley Kubrick's "Spartacus", Ridley Scott's "Gladiator", Wolfgang Petersen's slightly underrated "Troy", and the latest Zack Synder's "300" - they really manage to drag us away to another time and, for the most part, teach us a little about our ancestors.

In recent times, we haven't had much of the opportunity to watch some well-crafted old-fashioned historical epic and medieval time movies. I don't know the exact reason. The criteria for entry to this list is that the film must be an epic movie (a film which emphasizes human drama on a grand scale) and it must be based on real people or events or, if fictional, must depict accurately the period in which it is set. The most important thing about this list is that to look forward to the future of historical epic movies that are coming out in 2013 and beyond.

10. The Bible (2014)

"The TV series smash hit becomes a full length big screen feature."

"The Bible" starring Darwin Shaw, Roma Downey and Diogo Morgado. The History Channel’s miniseries on "The Bible" is being brought to the big screen. While the series ran for seven and a half hours in total, producers are planning to cut the narrative to a more movie-friendly (but still fairly mammoth) three hours. However, makers of the show aren’t overly concerned about keeping the audience’s attention - the TV show became the fastest-selling miniseries of all time, with a whole year’s projection for DVDs being sold in a mere six days.

While plot details haven’t been released, expect greater emphasis on the New Testament than the Old - unsurprisingly, producers have revealed that Jesus will be the main focus of the movie.

9. Irish Myths (2015)

"An epic Irish myth brought to life with Irishman Michael Fassbender in the lead."

"Irish Myths" starring Michael Fassbender. This adaptation of the famed Irish myth around fierce warrior Cuchulain. The script is currently being written by Ronan Bennett (Public Enemies), and will focus on the Ulster Myth Cycle of Irish mythology. Fassbender is set to play Cuchulain, a hero compared to Achilles for his short life and subsequent fame.

Interestingly, he's also known for his monstrous battle frenzies, which could look extremely cool on screen.

8. Berserker (TBA)

"Mel Gibson’s return to epic filmmaking this time featuring violent Vikings!"

Mel Gibson plans to direct the highly violent Viking historical epic Berseker. Braveheart- scribe Randall Wallace and Gibson himself wrote the screenplay. Working in the same vein as the film Apocalypto, the characters in this movie will speak in an historic tongue, Gibson is quoted as saying "I´ll do something that´s understandable to a modern audience. But it won´t be the English THEY´RE used to."

7. Genghis Khan (2014)

"Wu-Tang’s RZA to solidify his directorial career with Genghis Khan biopic!"

This film follows the lifetime journey of Genghis Khan, the founder and emperor of the Mongolian Empire which grew to be the biggest connected empire in history after Kahn united most of the Mongol tribes and conquered huge parts of Asia and Europe. The movie will be told from the perspective of the children of the Great Khan.

The life of Genghis Khan was recently adapted into a feature film called "Mongol: The Rise of Genghis Khan", directed by Russian director Sergey Bodrov, with Tadanobu Asano in the lead.

Genghis Khan has been a passion project for screenwriter and director John Milius (Red Dawn, Conan the Barbarian) who originally also wanted to helm the movie with Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler, Iron Man 2) as the Great Khan. Wu-Tang frontman and The Man with the Iron Fists director RZA has now taken over directing responsibilities.

6. Exodus (2015)

"Ridley Scott takes to the Testament in forthcoming Moses movie."

"Exodus", Ridley Scott’s forthcoming historical epic Moses biopic. It is said to focus on aspects of Moses’ life not yet brought onto the screen, particularly the Israelite’s relationship with Ramses, the Pharaoh. It is further rumored to be more in the vein of 300 than The Ten Commandments. Adam Cooper and Bill Collage were signed on to write the script in November 2010.

Scott is not the only big name director interested in bringing the story of the Israelite leader to the big screen, with Ang Lee also reportedly considering a gritty biopic.
