Legendary Pictures will begin production on "Warcraft," based on Activision Blizzard’s hit videogame franchise "World of Warcraft," which will be directed by Moon and Source Code's Duncan Jones. The company made the announcement at Comic-Con on Saturday. The project has long been a passion project of Legendary chief Thomas Tull. The footage showed off footage of a warrior wielding a sword and shield who faces down an orc. "Like if someone thought, 'What if Leone made a sword and sorcery movie on a blasted alien planet?" tweeted Russ Fischer. Here's how Eric describes what he saw from inside Hall H: via cinemablend.

"Warrior roaming an empty desert with a shield on his back. Greenish sky is covered by dark clouds and lightning. He sees a pile of armor on the ground and lands down to pick up a shield. He then takes his sword and beats it against the shield, as though calling someone out. We then see a green beast from behind holding a giant hammer. The two circle each other and then both charge. As they are about to collide the title appears: Warcraft."

"To me what makes WoW interesting is the lore, is the history. If you're not going to really utilize that in a movie adaptation, I don't see the point. Christ, I've been playing Warcraft games since fifth grade, so that's what—twenty years? I don't know how you encompass this expansive world in a single film. But there's a lot of different time periods within the span of these games. Maybe it'd work if they set it during one of the first wars. I just don't know. Tolkien also had a whole world that he established with his works, but again it had a clean story with established good guys and bad guys. Wow doesn't necessarily work that way."

Hollywood has been trying to make a Warcraft movie since 2006. The project has been through stops and starts, passed on from one director to another, at one point Steven Spielberg was even rumored to be directing it. Later Sam Raimi took over only to drop the project back in 2012. This time, though, it's the real deal. It's been officially confirmed that Duncan Jones (directed two critically acclaimed sci-fi movies, thus far, in the independently produced "Moon" and the 2011 blockbuster "Source Code.") will be directing the live-action film. He's an up and coming director of obvious talent.

"Shovel Ready" is an upcoming sci-fi thriller starring Denzel Washington. Shovel Ready is an adaptation of the forthcoming 2014 novel by New York Times Magazine culture editor Adam Sternbergh. The sci-fi thriller will is produced by Erwin Stoff who was also co-responsible for The Matrix which redefined the sci-fi thriller.

"The story centers on a hitman (Denzel Washington ) who chooses to protect a young woman instead of killing her. The dystopian cyberpunk thriller takes place in a society where citizens escape from the gruesomeness of everyday life by entering into a virtual reality."

8. Pure (2015)

"Pure" is an upcoming post-apocalyptic drama based on the eponymous YA novel by Julianna Baggott, which is part of a planned trilogy. 

"The story describes how humanity is divided into two camps: the Pures and the Wretches. While the latter live in the ashes of the old world, mostly disfigured, the former live inside the Dome, which protects them of the dangers of the outside. When Partridge, a Pure leaves this refuge to search for his mother, his path crosses with that of a 16-year-old pressia, a Wretch. For both nothing will ever be the same…"

7. Y: The Last Man (2015)

"Y: The Last Man" is based on what is described as one of the most influential and brilliant comic book series by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra. The decade long development of this project seems to finally be coming to fruition with New Line Cinema moves it to the top of their priority list. The studio brought Jericho writers Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia on board to finish the screenplay and is currently shopping around for a director.

"Samus Aran" is an intergalactic Bounty Hunter and the main character of the "Metroid" game series. Her first appearance was in the original Metroid, released in 1986. John Woo’s Tiger Hill Entertainment spent developing a sci-fi movie based on the Metroid video game series producer Brad Foxhoven explained that they need to update the character designs and significantly expand the backstory in ways that made Nintendo uneasy.

“We knew that a lot of the Metroid mythology had many similarities to other well-known science fiction franchises, so we had to try and propose some fresh ideas that Nintendo would approve,” explains Foxhoven. “We also knew that the characters were originally developed many years ago, when game systems were limited in their graphics and animation. These same designs needed to be updated, particularly when seen as a live-action representation.”

Well, we went, we saw and we conquered. Of all the games in attendance, we parsed out the 10 titles that we thought would be the most interesting to our movie-minded readers. If you like flicks like “Star Trek,” “The Avengers,” “The Lord of the Rings,” “Super,” “Star Wars” or “The Amazing Spider-Man,” this list probably pertains to you.

The history of movies based on video games is a spotty one - and that's being generous. Even big-budget flicks like Angelina Jolie's "Tomb Raider", Jake Gyllenhaal's "Prince of Persia" or Mark Wahlberg "Max Payne" still left fans quite disappointed.

But after something of a break, Hollywood is gearing up to once again try its luck with the video game source material. From huge new franchises to some odd throwbacks, a handful of video game film adaptations are coming along in 2014 and the next couple of years. Which sound promising, and which should see a preemptive 'game over' screen?

10. Resident Evil 6 (SEP, 12TH 2014)

"The epic last chapter in the Resident Evil series!"

Director Paul W.S. Anderson, who has been involved with all previous Resident Evil movies is game for a sixth and final installment of the very successful franchise. He stated that the 6th Resident Evil game, which came out recently, will have its influence on the screenplay.

The Resident Evil movie series is based on the iconic Capcom video game franchise by the same name.

9. Agent 47 (2014)

"A reboot of the Hitman series, starring fast & furious Paul Walker!"

Fox International is going to reboot the Square Enix video game series Hitman as a new movie called Agent 47. Paul Walker will star as the bald assassin of the title, a character last seen in the 2007 film Hitman directed by Xavier Gens with Timothy Olyphant in the lead role.

Agent 47 will be written by Mike Finch and Skip Woods and directed by Aleksander Bach, a commercial director making his feature debut. Oddly enough, Woods also wrote the first movie for Gens and Olyphant.

8. World Of Warcraft (2015)

"The most popular MMORPG gets a massive movie adaptation"

A movie version of the popular role-playing game World of Warcraft, by Blizzard Entertainment has been in development for years. Sam Raimi () was initially attached as a director, but had to drop out because of his involvement in Oz The Great and Powerful. Charles Leavitt (the writer behind the upcoming fantasy flick The Seventh Son) is reportedly now on board to wrangle the script into shape.

7. Deus Ex (2015)

"The critically acclaimed cyberpunk video game is coming to the big screen"

Deus Ex will presumably take place in the year 2027, when big corporations have outgrown government control and hardware-enhanced body prosthetics are a common sight.

Scott Derrickson (Sinister, The Exorcism of Emily Rose) wrote the script and also directs the video game adaptation. Deus Ex: Human Revolution, which was released in 2011 by Square Enix, will probably serve as the source material.

6. Kane & Lynch (TBA)

"Bruce Willis and Jamie Foxx team up as explosive partners in crime"

Death Row inmates Adam ‘Kane’ Marcus (Bruce Willis) and James Seth Lynch (Jamie Foxx) manage to escape during a prisoner transport and team up to retrieve a stolen fortune. Will the two highly different criminals - the former is an efficient mercenary and the latter an unpredictable schizophrenic - be able to work together?

Based on the eponymous successful third-person shooter video game from IQ Interactive.
