Oh For God's Sake! 10 Upcoming Spoof Films You Should Avoid

Who doesn't enjoy a good spoof or parody film. They're a good way of reminding you of something by making it funny or completely ruin it. But lately producers have been using spoofs as a cheap way to make some quick cash without trying too hard.

With the recent release of "A Haunted House" and "Scary Movie 5"– a parody of found-footage films like "Paranormal Activity" series and "The Devil Inside" – we're counting down some of the upcoming films the parody sub-genre has to offer. Although it has become harder and harder to find solid examples of parody talents like Mel Brooks (The Naked Gun series), David Zucker, and Jim Abrahams, we still think that the whole spoof movie concept can work when done right.

However, it's just as easy to deliver a parody that feels lazy and lacks any sort of comedic or satirical punch - just look at films like "Disaster Movie", "Epic Movie", and "Date Movie".

So we thought of producing a list of upcoming spoof films that will be released any time soon. Be aware of what you choose to watch, Don't tell me that I didn't warn you.

10. 2012-ish: The Day The Earth Bent Over (TBA)

From Robert Moniot, director of the 2001 short Pearl Harbor II: Pearlmageddon comes a new spoof movie that looks to take on the apocalypse genre. Now I know what you're thinking; 'didn't we just see the release of Disaster Movie which was essentially the very same thing?

Here's the film's synopsis:

"A brilliant young scientist named Tom Mahoney fights to save the planet from a multitude of catastrophes that threaten mankind - in spite of the idiots that keep getting in his way: A bumbling President, a manic-depressive NASA shuttle commander, and a sexy reporter who can't keep her clothes on."

9. Dirty Step Stomp (TBA)

The Weinstein Company has picked up Dirty Step Stomp, Steve Basilone & Annie Mebane's spoof, setting it up with Benderspink. The movie will spoof such recent films as Stomp the Yard, Step Up and Save the Last Dance as well as the 1980s classics Footloose and Dirty Dancing. Chris Bender, Mason Novick and JC Spink will serve as producers.

8. Love at Second Bite (TBA)

"Love At Second Bite", a parody film produced by Morning Light Productions and a sequel to 1979's "Love At First Bite". It stars George Hamilton and David Steinberg as screenwriter (WTH). The storyline: "Twenty five years later, Dracula's Americanized son rejects his family's heritage and gets married to a human. Trouble begins when he learns that his vampire relatives are coming to America for the wedding."

7. Not Another Celebrity Movie (TBA)

"Not Another Celebrity" Movie adds a unique twist to the spoof genre as the talented cast portrays the big cinematic icons there are: the celebrities themselves. Packed with a star-studded crew of celebrity look-alikes, this parody of Oceans 11 follows the misguided antics of Charlie Sheen as he tries to meet with Justin Bieber, whom he believes is his illegitimate son. When his attempts to reconnect are thwarted, Sheen engages the services of Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Robert DeNiro, Tom Cruise and seven other celebrities implement a plot to kidnap the pop sensation at an upcoming concert at the Riviera Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The resulting antics are, in a word, Winning!

6. Sci-fi Movie (TBA)

David Zucker projects can’t possibly be as bad as the Friedberg/Seltzer ones. And yet, for a guy who was once a part of that legendary Zucker/Zucker/Abrahams team that brought us "Airplane", "Top Secret" and "The Naked Gun", he is definitely not doing himself any favors here. I just hate how generic these movies are getting… the original joke of calling the first one Scary Movie is now lost. 

It’s only a matter of time before someone comes out with Spoof Movie. Plus I think they’re running out of genres to parody. According to Box Office Mojo, Sci-Fi Movie is currently slated for release on February 20th. I don’t think I’ll be marking that on my calendar.

5. The $40,000 Man (TBA)

"Bad Santa" director Terry Zwigoff has been handed the plans to "The $40,000 Man", as New Line has just hired him to direct the comedy spoof.

The company nabbed the spec script from John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein earlier in the year, which finds a true American astronaut hero who – in true Steve Austin style – is injured in a terrible accident and needs some serious bionic rebuilding. Sadly for him, the government’s coffers are seriously depleted, and the bargain bin bionics he’s fitted with aren’t exactly super-powered.

4. The Biggest Movie of All Time 3D (TBA)

Writers/directors Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer are set to bring a spoof of Avatar to the big screen, called The Biggest Movie of All Time 3D.

The duo who brought us Scary Movie, spoofing the teen horror genre, Date Movie, looking at the cliched romantic comedies, Epic Movie spoofing blockbusters, and Vampires Suck, making fun of the cultural phenomenon Twilight.

Now, it's time to bring another funny look at the biggest movie of all time, Avatar.  The duo has appropriately titled the new film The Biggest Movie of All Time 3D.

3. The Starving Games 2013 (TBA)

The team who brought you “Date Movie” and “Meet the Spartans” has decided to lampoon the biggest show in town with “The Starving Games.” Apparently the movie will also mock recent broad targets such as “Sherlock Holmes” and “Harry Potter,” to minimal comic effect. The movie will make millions of dollars based on name-recognition alone, granting the filmmakers the financial freedom to keep making insipid parodies until they die. There goes the twenty-first century.

2. They Came Together (TBA)

Wait, what?! We already know that Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd are leading a romantic comedy parody called They Came Together from Role Models and Wet Hot American Summer director David Wain from a script he co-wrote with fellow comedian and The Baxter director Michael Showalter. 

The story follows Joel (Rudd) and Molly (Poehler) who meet and have nothing but contempt for each other as Joel's big corporation is the one that threatens to shut down Molly's quirky knick-knack store. But we're not sure where these first look photos of the romantic duo dressed up as Benjamin Franklin come into play. Look!

1.  A Haunted House 2 (MAR 28TH, 2014)

"A Haunted House 2" will be financed and produced by IM Global’s genre label Octane.

The other film scheduled for this same date is Darren Aronofsky's Noah.

In the first film, when newlyweds Malcolm (Marlon Wayans) and Kisha (Essence Atkins) move into their dream house, they quickly find they’re not alone. But it’s not the house that’s haunted, but his wife that is possessed with spirits – or as Malcolm calls it – “relationship baggage.” Malcolm hires everyone from a priest to modern day ghost busters to rid her of the demon, determined not to let the evil spirit ruin his marriage... Or his sex life for that matter.
