The Most Underrated Mystery Movies Of All Time

List of the most underrated Mystery fiction movies that i have seen so far. These movies are so full of surprises and always keep you on the edge of the seat.

1. Saw (2004)

***Fast Paced and Intriguing Thriller Ever***

"Let the games begin!"

Two men fall victim found themselves in a room and try to outsmart a psychopath trying to teach people a cruel life lesson by having them fight to stay alive. Quite recently i saw this movie and was completely blown by the story. The whole movie is simply amazing, very gripping and real raw stuff.  This one will shake you down. There are 7 movies of SAW  till now but none like the first part of Saw.

2. Primal Fear (1996)

***Extremely Underrated Movie, Not To Be Missed***

"Sooner or later a man who wears two faces forgets which one is real."

With Primal Fear Edward Norton announced himself to the world with one of the finest performances in decades. Richard Gere puts in a strong performance in one of his favorite roles - as a lawyer. He comes across a case about a young man denying that he killed his priest despite all the evidence pointing to him. When it transpires that the accused (Aaron played by Edward Norton) has a split personality who claims to be the murderer (Roy, also Norton) it is too late to bring it into court. While watching this movie you will be able to recollect a lot of other movies...Must Watch...

3. Fracture (2007)

***Gosling And Hopkins At Their Very Own Best ***

"If you look close enough, you'll find everyone has a weak spot."

"I Shot my wife...You Prove It"

The good thing about this movie is there is nothing overdone. Not too many silly twists, no ridiculous cliched action sequences and no overacting or melodrama. There is a solid story which keeps you guessing and gets resolved nicely. Liked the performances from the very Hannibal Lechter like Anthony Hopkins and the understated Ryan Gosling where his restrained style works well here.

4. The Illusionist (2006)

***A Suspenseful, Intriguing And Sensual Escape From Reality***

"Nothing Is What It Seems"

Steven Millhauser's brilliant little short story 'Eisenheim the Illusionist' is beautifully realized cinematically by Neil Burger whom Not only adapted the story as a screenplay but also directed by a With great flair for the subject. Wisely using the repeated line 'Nothing is what it seems' Burger infuses this dark investigation into the lives of the divided Viennese classes and suggests the crumbling of the Austro-Hungarian Empire with the focus on the illusory magic of one Eisenheim (finely characterized by Edward Norton) and its effects on the Crown Prince Leopold (Rufus Sewell) and the bifurcated Duchess Sophie (Jessica Biel). Yet another wonderful display of acting skills from Edward Norton...Watch It Edward Norton...

5. The Ghost Writer (2010)

***Not Roman Polanski's Best But Still Watchable***

"Read Between The Lies"

In Roman Polanski's The Ghost Writer, a man without a past fluster about in the life of a man with too much of one. He starts by reading the work of an earlier ghost who inexplicably drowned, and finds it tedious and unadventurous. Employed to spice up the manuscript to validate a $10 million advance, he uncovers material to make it thrilling, accurate, and perhaps fatal. This movie is the work of a man who knows how to oversee a thriller. Slick, composed, self-possessed, it develops tension rather than relying upon jolts and action.

6. Inside Man (2006)

***So Original, Exciting And Enjoyable While It Last***

" It looked like the perfect bank robbery. But you can't judge a crime by its cover."

This is a movie that you really really don't want to miss! A wonderful plot and keeps the audience guessing till the last second. Denzel is at his best playing the NYPD detective, his wonderful acting makes this story as believing as it can be. Clive Owen, what a superb actor! He is so clam, smooth, and elegant in this movie and he actually makes me root for the "bad guy" from the beginning till the end. Jodie was good, too..No Excuses..Just Watch it..

7. The Bone Collector  (1999)

***A Decent Serial-Killer Movie***

"Two cops on the trail of a brutal killer. They must see as one, they must act as one, they must think as one, before the next victim falls."

This film is underrated, but it is really a great movie to watch. It is 2 hours of suspence and intelligence. The killer is the most intruiging character because he plays mind games with Denzel and Jolie straight through out the movie. Denzel brings a certain charisma, wit and intelligence to every movie he acts. He proves that he is a professional actor by using his facial expressions throughout the movie. I give this movie a thumbs up!!

8. The Raven (2012)

***Quite Underrated, Surprisingly Good***

"The only one who can stop a serial killer is the man who inspired him."

After watching this movie i felt that it was quite underrated for its standard. It is refreshing to see an all around good movie that focused on such a great and influential writer. On the whole movie is very well-crafted, well-designed costume and well-portrayed story...Well Done...Must See.

9. Red Dragon (2002)

***A Fine Prequel To "Silence Of The Lambs"***

"Meet Hannibal Lecter For The First Time"

"FBI Agent Will Graham Is About to Enter the Mind of a Killer. He Must First Let Hannibal Lecter Inside His Head."

This is the prequel to Silence of the lambs and sequel of Hannibal. Red Dragon takes place just before the events of The Silence of the Lambs. In this movie, a deranged serial killer is killing entire families every month on the night of the full moon. Jack Crawford of the FBI calls in retired agent Will Graham to help catch the killer. Graham left the FBI after being critically wounded while capturing the Cannibalistic Hannibal Lecter. Now, Graham must interview Hannibal, to see if he can shed any knowledge on the case. Meanwhile, the killer struggles with himself when he begins to fall in love with a fellow employee. This movie is closer to Silence of the Lambs than Hannibal in Quality and style, and therefore are more entertaining.

10. Phone Booth (2002)

***Simple, Thoughtful And Entertaining***

"A ringing phone has to be answered."

"No options. No lies. No fear. No deals. Just keep talking."

This movie really took me by surprise.Colin Farrell does a super job playing a sleazy guy held captive in the phone booth by a threatening sniper-caller. The story, although simple, holds your attention because there is great suspense, innovative camera-work, an involving story that hooks you in pretty fast and some great sound.
