Top Ten Unusual Korean Revenge And Mystery Movies
List
of some of the best Korean Revenge Action Thriller movies i have seen. What i liked the most
about the Korean movies is the way handle the cinematography and bring
life to each characters so naturally. Believe me i have seen some of the
best heart melting romantic movies and mind-blowing Mystery-thrillers
so far...Strictly For Adults...
1. Oldboy (2003)
***An Outstanding Yet Quite Disturbing Movie Of All Time***
"15 years forced in a cell, only 5 days given to seek revenge."
"Laugh and the world laughs with you; weep, and you weep alone."
South Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook known for his violent and offbeat story of punishment and vengeance. The story of the movie may not be everyone's liking but Oh boy these Korean actors really know how to fit into wildly characters as this and deliver it so realistically. This brutally violent thriller combines bizarre comedy with chilling
savagery in a highly individual way. Constantly fascinating, though
it's hard to watch a tongue being snipped out with scissors, and other
acts of mutilation. Oldboy is a sadistic masterpiece. Must watch if you are not a heart patient by means..
2. I Saw The Devil (2010)
***An absolute masterpiece of brutality and revenge***
"I will kill you when you are in the most pain. When you're in the most pain, shivering out of fear, then I will kill you."
The best serial-killer movie after Se7en. This movie is unforgettable, chillingly bloody and no mercy. "I Saw the Devil" is a deeply disturbing portrayal of vengeance and
heartbreak and delivers a fantastic tale. If you are a fan of the horror genre then this movie is a must see.
Others may find this one to be a little bit more than they can handle.
3. Memories Of Murder (2003)
***A True Story Of Naivety And Suspicion***
"Where Are You, Murder?"
A normal notion that we have, when we watch any murder mystery is that
the killer ought to be unveiled at the end of the film. But, this film
completely shatters this very notion. This film is fascinating enough
to keep the viewers at the edge of the seats till the very end of the
movie. Must See.
4. Mother (2009)
***An Outstanding Movie With Twists and Turns***
"She'll stop at nothing."
I must say that I did find the story interesting; it being about a
mother who sets out to prove the innocence of her slightly mentally
disabled son for a murder that she believes he did not do. So we get to
see how far this mother (played by Hye-ja Kim) would go for her son
(played by Bin Won). And she uproots her normally quiet, traditional
repetitive routine life and sets out on a perilous investigation into a
web of lies and cover ups.
5. A Tale of Two Sisters (2003)
***Psychological Thriller, Horror, and Drama, all at their best***
"Every family has its dark secrets."
"Our sorrow was conceived long before our birth."
"A Tale Of Two Sisters" , the story is about a girl called Su Mi, who is released
from a psychiatric hospital and returns home with her sister, Su Yeoung
to her house near a lake. Her father has recently remarried so their
step mum is trying to adjust to her new surroundings, while the sisters
are hateful of her. And yet, there seems to be a mysterious presence in
the house that no one is entirely sure of.
This is psychological horror at its best because you honestly won't see
some of the twists coming. And you will have to think hard because it
doesn't tell it to you in black and white - which is why a second
viewing makes it even more exciting as you start to see moments of
'aha! so that's why this is happening'.
6. The Chaser (2008)
***Bloodiest, Boldest and Thrilling***
"Some People Just Can't Handle This Movie"
"Serial killers don't play fair in South Korea."
THE CHASER is a film unlike any other. This South Korean masterpiece
tells of the battle of wills between a chilling serial killer and his
nemesis, a cop-turned-pimp who finds his call girls missing after
appointments with a sinister client. Full of dark, violent sequences,
downbeat twists and a taut, electrifying script, THE CHASER is one of
the best spins on this genre I've ever watched.
7. Shutter (2004)
***This One Will SCARE You***
"The most terrifying images are the ones that are real."
"Take a picture... and you'll see the truth."
It's hard to find a good horror movie nowadays. Most of them don't
really scary you, they just make you jump off your seats because of the
sound. Besides, a movie about a ghost of a girl that haunts people who
did something bad to her, is not that original, is it? Movies like The
Ring, Dark Water, The Eye, The Grudge (all Asiatic movies with American
remakes) have almost the same plot. And Shutter is not different.
8. Joint Security Area (2000)
***Another Excellent Piece OF Work From Park Chan-Wook***
"The story of four "brothers" "
"A truly inspiring movie that makes you ask "Why do we have wars?"
Joint Security Area is a fantastic movie. It is brilliant written and
directed, which Park Chan-wook showing some of his trade make shots. The acting
is excellent and the subject matter is very well handled. This is a
story of friendship in impossible circumstances. The soldiers realize
that they have a lot in common and that the North and South are not
that different from each other. It is bittersweet, but at times
humorous. There are debates about Korean politics, such as unification,
and North Korea's nuclear ambitions, and the soldiers involved are
patriotic to their countries. Their are aspects to the both sides
military, and neither get off lightly in this film.
9. The Man From Nowhere (2010)
***Not For The Faint Of Heart***
This film has that in spades and doesn't sacrifice the entertainment
factor to get there. There are some very graphic scenes, which to me
only enforces this message. Real fights wouldn't be pretty and people
who won them wouldn't be unscathed. Also, people who are capable of
killing large amounts of people, for whatever reason, shouldn't
immediately be put in charge of the well being of children. This is a
fantastic movie that got a lot of things right.
10. A Bittersweet Life (2005)
***Another Breathtaking Revenge Movie***
"When doing right goes very, very wrong."
A Bittersweet Life comes in 3 large acts that make the 120-minute
running time pass in a breeze. The set-up and story are so simple and
honest that you can literally start-watching the film at any point and
still become immersed in the action. It's the high-octane journey you
take to get there that really matters right? And A Bittersweet Life is
one movie you'll want to watch over and over again.
