Stephen Frears's "Philomena" Trailer Starring Steve Coogan & Judi Dench

"Philomena" is an upcoming drama film, featuring Judi Dench as Philomena Lee, Steve Coogan as Martin Sixsmith, Neve Gachev as NYC Traveller, Charlie Murphy as Kathleen, Simone Lahbib as Kate Sixsmith, Sophie Kennedy Clark as Young Philomena and Charles Edwards as David. Directed by Stephen Frears and written by Alan Partridge star Coogan and Jeff Pope. Based on the true story of political journalist Martin Sixsmith and how he helped an elderly Irish woman find the son she was forced to give up 50 years earlier. 

It has been selected to be screened in the main competition section at the 70th Venice International Film Festival."Philomena" is in UK cinemas from 1 November 2013.

Official Synopsis:

"Stephen Frears directs the dramas, which tells the story of Irish teenager Philomena, sent to a convent in 1952 after falling pregnant, with her baby sent away for adoption to America. Philomena later encountered journalist Martin Sixsmith (played by Coogan in the film), who became intrigued by her story and helped her travel to America to seek out her lost son. Sixsmith’s book 'The Lost Child Of Philomena Lee' was published in 2009. It acted as a catalyst for thousands of adopted Irish children and their ‘shamed’ mothers to come forward to tell their stories. Many are still searching for their lost families."
