Pacfic Rim Roars And Smashes Chinese Box-Office Records

Guillermo del Toro’s science fiction epic "Pacific Rim" registered Warner Bros. biggest box-office opening ever in China this weekend, took in $45.2 million and finishing No. 1 in its debut there.

According to "The Wrap" reports, it's better than the $32 million opening that "The Dark Knight Rises" registered last year, and brings Pacific Rim's international total for the giant robots-and-monsters epic to a healthy $200.4 million. International success remains important for the film considering it's  struggling to hit $100 million domestically with $93 million after four weeks, it's still unclear if the film will break even considering its $200 million (approx) production budget and additional marketing spend.

Pacific Rim had the second-strongest opening in Russia with $20 million, followed by Korea with $17.9 million, Mexico with estimated $15 million and the U.K with $12 million. Pacific Rim opens next week in its final three major markets, Spain, Japan and Brazil. Fans should keep their fingers crossed that its international performance is strong enough to justify a sequel.
