Updates: The Current War, Fede Alvarez's "Machina" And Martin Campbell's "Alpha"

Probably the biggest shock and news story of the day was the arrival of the teaser trailer (such a beautiful trailer) for Ben Stiller's "The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty." The film, which Stiller both features in and directs, was revealed as something much more than your everyday remake, promising something that could perhaps be the topic of Oscar talk. It's certainly one of the more ambitious directorial efforts we've seen from Ben Stiller, and it seems he's keen to keep testing himself with unique and interesting material.

Updates: The Current War, Fede Alvarez's "Machina" And Martin Campbell's "Alpha"

According THR, The Weinstein Company is in talks to produce and finance the period drama about the Edison-Westinghouse feud "The Current War," which will finally get this period pic moving forward.  Bekmambetov is still on-board as a producer through his Bazelevs Banner alongside Steven Zaillian and Garrett Basch, and THR notes that “a number of directors are circling the material, including Ben Stiller.”

"The story takes place in the late-1880s and revolves around power titans Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse's battle over the supply of electricity. Edison championed direct current (DC) for electric power distribution over alternating current (AC), which was backed by several European companies and Westinghouse Electric."

Even though a sequel to Fede Alvarez‘ Evil Dead remake is in the works, Alvarez isn’t attached to direct. Instead, Fede Alvarez turning his attention to a sci-fi action project called "Machina" and production of MRC (who are also behind Neill Blomkamp's "Elysium"). Details are being kept under wraps, but Alvarez will co-write the script with Rodo Sayagues and direct the movie.

Lastly, "Casino Royale" helmer Martin Campell will direct "Alpha," a project penned by Scott Frank ("Out Of Sight," "Minority Report") about "a Navy Seal sent to South America to train dogs for combat service. The handler teaching him how to train the canines is captured, leaving the Seal with the dogs and when he finds out the handler is still alive, he and the dogs goes back to South America to save him."
