Bryan Singer Hints At "X-Men: Day Of Future Past" Plot Details

Many movie fanatics predicted that the plot set in the future wouldn't be as far ahead as those in the comic book of the same name, but director Bryan Singer has now confirmed exactly when those (and the ones set in the past) take place. He also talks more about how Kitty Pryde (played by Ellen Page in the film) sends Wolverine back in time into her younger self to help the X-Men of the past (most of whom have been hunted to extinction in the future) prevent the assassination of Senator Robert Kelly’s (who died in the first X-Men film) and the Sentinel apocalypse to come. In the adaptation of the 1990s animated series, the mutant Bishop was the time traveler.

We all know that "X-Men: DOFP" is based on the popular 1981 comic book story written by Chris Claremont – also called Days of Future Past – serves as the inspiration for this installment, which features time travel and the mutant-hunting giant robots known as Sentinels, which were (sort of) seen very briefly as part of a Danger Room training simulation in "X-Men: The Last Stand."

Director Bryan Singer said the film was meant to be a "betweequel" while writer Simon Kinberg said, "the goal was to try and make a film that could bring the full cast together, so time travel was the perfect tool to use. Because the character of Wolverine is ageless, he was chosen to be used as a journeyman, and a way to tie both worlds together."

Singer also addressed fans about "X-Men: The Last Stand." Before the conference there were rumors that stated that since the film would include time travel, the events of the third installment would be erased. He stated, "Whenever you go back in time, and this is every bit as much a time travel movie as it is an X-Men movie, there are those risks. If you believe in certain physical and multiverses, you have to have respect for the continuity as we had. I believe certain continuity will maintain, and some things will change. It's the nature of time travel. If you go back and mess with time, things happen..."

He continued, "This is my first opportunity to make a time travel movie and I tried my very best to make a set of rules, respect them, and stay within the continuity of those rules."

Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Halle Berry, Evan Peters, Booboo Stewart, Fan Bingbing, Shawn Ashmore, Omar Sy, and Lucas Till also features in Bryan Singer’s latest X-film.

"X-Men: Days of Future Past" tells the story of the X-Men who must send Wolverine to the past to change a major historical event that could globally impact man and mutant kind. The film is currently in post production and will open on May 23, 2014.

What do you make of the slight twist on the Days of Future Past storyline?
