In the fiction world, a fish out of water theme is a story pattern that puts the lead character in a world totally outlandish to the world he or she is customary. Commonly a vehicle for comedy, it can also be used in other genres including drama, romance, action and science fiction. This is the list of Comedies about Fathers and Father Figures Parenting Children from late 80s to present.

10. Daddy Day Care (1999)

10. Daddy Day Care (1999)
*** Wonderful, Funny, Cute Family Film ***

"Daddy Day Care" is an Eddie Murphy movie about a man and his friend who are fired from their cereal-making jobs after making a putrid cereal. So, they decide to open up a daycare to support their families. The daycare steadily grows, so this worries their competition, Miss Harridan. So, she calls the childcare officer twice, and both times they slide out. But, the third time he tells them that they need to get a bigger building.

Daddy Day Care, is a very funny and hilarious movie. It is a movie suitable for people of all ages. Yeah it does take about 5 minutes to get going, but that is all. Many people walk into a movie and expect it to be funny the first second that the movie gets started. It tops it all off when men watch the kids. I saw it on opening night and I enjoyed. So please spend some money and see the movie. I guarantee you, you will love this movie, if you love movies.

9. Jersey Girl (2004)

9. Jersey Girl (2004)
*** Not Perfect, But Entertaining Drama ***

"Jersey Girl" was a pleasant surprise, and one of Kevin Smith's best efforts. There is still far too much vulgarity for my liking, but this is a vast improvement as far I'm concerned. I liked the background story of Affleck and Jennifer Lopez's characters. It really sets the tone for the movie well, and gave us a valuable lesson. Don't work yourself too hard, because you'll miss out on the important things in life.

Affleck's character is the comically archetypal Big Shot at the beginning who makes the progression to the equally archetypal Good Guy by the end. It's been done a thousand times. That doesn't exclude it from being good, but it doesn't help it either. Jersey Girl is a sentimental ball of easy jokes and played out storylines. It's fairly enjoyable to watch, but don't waste your money if you can help it.

8. Cheaper by the Dozen (2003)

8. Cheaper by the Dozen (2003)
*** A Nice Film For The Whole Family To Enjoy ***

Have you ever needed a movie where you just need to take a breath and relax? Well, Cheaper by the Dozen is your answer. It is packed with comedy that will blow the family away and the best thing about it is it's rated 'G'. So it's great for a family party. The movie is great and everyone acted well. The worst actor would have to be 'Bonnie Hunt' she played the mom, and didn't do really well as her. The best actor would have had to be 'Steve Martin' and 'Hilary Duff' as they put a great effort into the movie.

Everything that can happen does happen and for a while their lives have been going downhill. But, love pulls this family together and the wrongs are righted. So, even though it's not the best family film, it's worth watching with your family for a good laugh and a good time. It's sweet, funny and never fails to make me think about family.

7. The Pacifier (2005)

7. The Pacifier (2005)
*** Doesn't Quite Get There But Still Fun ***

The Pacifier is one of those cookie-cutter star vehicle endeavors that could've been made while the whole cast and crew were asleep. The acting is either over-the-top  or zombie-style with very little in between. A supporting character from the kids' school was just plain puzzling in his behavior. There are so many improbabilities and irregularities in the story that all we can do is examine the work as a whole and when we do, in spite of all the problems, we can't help but smile a little. The kids are cute and Diesel, in spite of himself, seems to have an endearing quality that emerges as the film progresses.

Vin Diesel is very good in this movie. Lauren Graham is also good as the school principal and love interest for Diesel. I am not a Gilmore Girl watcher but I think Graham is very appealing in this movie alone and I would like to see more of her. Sure the story doesn't bear much scrutiny, but this movie is just plain fun to watch.

6. The Game Plan (2007)

6. The Game Plan (2007)
*** Funny, Touching And Pretty Good Film ***

Dwayne Johnson plays Joe Kingman, an unbelievably rich football player who has everything a rich football player could want: Money, expensive furniture, and even a bulldog named Spike. If you were him, you would be living in heaven. But then you would be living in Hell if you found out that you had a daughter who just happened to show up on your doorstep. Talk about scary. Just like any other movie about a man who finds out that he has a daughter, their relationship doesn't always go according to plan. But as the movie continues, the relationship spreads and soon they all live happily ever after.

I recommend this movie because is entertaining and have a nice feeling about it so if you want to be a away from those bad crimes, horror and action movie this is the perfect escape.
