10 Stars Who Will Make Waves This Year 2013

Every year has its raising and breakout stars. Last year, we went crazy for Tom Hardy in "The Dark Knight Rises", Matthew McConaughey in "Mud" and Quvenzhane Wallis in "Beasts of the Southern Wild." The previous summer, Chris Hemsworth broke out in "Thor," and Octavia Spencer rode to an Oscar in "The Help." So, let's double down on who will make waves this year...

10. Gina Carano, "Fast And Furious 6"

Carano, who is also a mixed martial arts fighter, often plays strong women who can literally kick ass. Carano, 31, a former stunt professional on the TV game show "American Gladiators," was ranked among the top mixed martial arts fighters in the world before she retired to work in Hollywood. Her first full-blown action, starring role in the Steven Soderbergh-directed 2011 thriller "Haywire." We could expect some real hard stuff from this lady in coming years...

9. Michael B. Jordan, "Fruitvale Station"

Another small-to-big-screen story, Jordan has an existing fan base from TV's "Friday Night Lights" and "The Wire." Now, he stars in one of Sundance's buzziest films -- it won both the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award. The fact-based story traces the last day in the life of Oscar Grant, a Bay Area teen shot by an Oakland cop on New Year's Day 2009.

8. Taissa Farmiga, "The Bling Ring"

Little sister Taissa had a major role in Vera Farmiga’s directorial debut, "Higher Ground." Following a recurring role on TV’s "American Horror Story," the lookalike teenager has a major role in Sofia Coppola's Cannes-bound upscale chick flick opposite Emma Watson, "The Bling Ring." And, beyond the summer, she has three more features in the pipeline.

7. Craig Robinson, "Peeples"

Hot off the heels of TV’s "The Office" shutting its doors, funnyman Robinson tries on the leading man role in the room-com "Peeples" opposite Kerry Washington. And then he returns to the ensemble to stare down the apocalypse with party boys Seth Rogen, James Franco, and Jay Baruchel in "The Is The End." We think it’s only the beginning.

6. Mickey Sumner, "Frances Ha"

Mickey has tried very hard to keep out of her famous parents' shadows -- she's the daughter of Sting (aka Gordon Sumner) and Trudie Styler. Mickey's performance in a latter-day "Manhattan" opposite Greta Gerwig (Sumner plays the sensible best friend to Gerwig's free-spirited Frances) marks a turning point for the talented actress who deserves her own place in the sun.

5. Jason Clarke, "The Great Gatsby," "White House Down"

Clarke, 43, gained name recognition -- and some Supporting Actor buzz -- for his role as the tortured American torturer in "Zero Dark Thirty." This summer, we’ll easily put the name to the handsome face with two major projects: opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in "The Great Gatsby" and Channing Tatum in "White House Down." The Aussie native will also star opposite Diane Kruger in "The Green Blade Rises" later in the year.

4.  Charlie Hunnam, "Pacific Rim"

Our favorite blond, bearded Brit hottie leaps from the small screen -- "Sons of Anarchy" and "Queer as Folk" -- to star in one of the most hotly anticipated summer sci-fi films. In his first of two movies for director Guillermo del Toro, Hunnam pilots a robot to defeat sea-monsters that arrive from beneath the Pacific Ocean in this futuristic "Godzilla."

3. Rila Fukushima, the babes of " The Wolverine"

This year we have already witnessed some intense chick fights in "Fast & Furious 6" and it's not over we will be seeing Rila Fukushima is doing hard-hitting stunts with Hugh Jackman's tormented comic-book hero. Fukushima, who plays Yukio, hails from Japan. But there’s nothing foreign about their wanting to get their claws in The Wolverine or vice versa.

2. Alice Eve, "Star Trek Into Darkness"

The 31-year-old slimy slim blonde Londoner has had her close calls -- co-starring roles as the elusive love object in "She’s Out of My League," and as Young Agent O in the Much-Better-To-Forget "Men in Black 3." But now the sexy blonde boldly joins the "Star Trek" jam as Dr. Carol Marcus, a Captain Kirk love interest once played by the late Bibi Besch. Hmm...A lot to look forward from this blonde in acting department (Don't forget her expense and exclusive bikini scene in "Start Trek Into Darkness").

1. Jaden Smith, "After Earth"

The son of Will Smith and second generation of Smiths comes of age at 14 as a full-fledge action star, not just your brand-name sequel server from "The Karate Kid." Father and co-star Will Smith is grooming Jaden Smith to share his spot anchoring summer tent-poles and this sci-fi adventure will prove that Jaden has the right stuff. Director/co-writer M. Night Shyamalan is banking on the father-son star power to overcome recent failures at the box-office and jump start his career, too.
