Ten Best Strange And Unique Movies Of All Time

There are no limits to human imaginations. It's scientific fact that the human mind is capable of discovering and exploring the infinite. Some of us wants to share those imaginative thoughts with others and make them feel exactly what they feel about certain things in this world. This is where "Motion Picture" plays a crucial part in sharing those creative ideas with others in an elegant and realistic way.

This is the collection of movies which are highly innovative and creative in the screenplay, Editing, Plot and Cinematography. It will make you think "Is this even possible?". That's what I felt after watching these movies and I would like to share the top ten Strange and Innovative movies I have seen so far.

10. Thank You For Smoking (2005)

***Quite Underrated, A Smart And Brilliant Movie For All***

"For tobacco's Nick Naylor, it's just another day at the office"

"Nick Naylor is the Chief Spokesman for Big Tobacco. If you want an easy job, go work for the Red Cross."

"Thank You For Smoking" movie rocked on so many levels it hurts. It was furiously funny and intelligent. You would think that from the title and movie image that the movie is about cigarette smoking. Cigarettes are not the main agenda of this movie. It really is about a well crafted, creative Spin Doctor named Nick Naylor. Nick is a lobbyist for cigarette companies. He is a master of talk and spin that could argue and charm anyone about a subject and this is really what the movie is about. I thoroughly enjoyed the Rasputin likeness of the character but he was also sprinkled with human qualities being a father and loving his son. So while we actively see him working as a lobbyist, his son questions his motives and methods and uses the same skill to work for him. I loved this about the movie.

9. Sin City (2005)

 ***Totally Stunning Comic Adaptation***

"Walk down the right back alley in Sin City and you can find anything."

"An old man dies. A young woman lives. A fair trade. I love you, Nancy."

"I love hitmen. No matter what you do to them, you don't feel bad."

Sin City in its original serialized comic form was everything that one would expect from the then well known artist/writer/creator Frank Miller and more. Many would come to say that it is his best work. It's a churning vat of old fashioned pulp style stories, each one more dark and edgy then the last. And yet, Sin City itself is morbidly fascinating; if you don't mind delving through the haze of sleaze, violence and corruption you'll find a really compelling story underneath the hard exterior.

Sin City exudes the essence of classic film noir, except combined with over-the-top violence, characters and dialogue to maintain that comic book feel. Giving co-director status to creator Frank Miller and allowing him to write the screenplay was perhaps the wisest move director Robert Rodriguez ever made, because Miller's gritty influence shines through, perfectly capturing the mood of his original creations.

8. Requiem for a Dream (2000)

 ***Incredibly Moving And Unforgettable***

"Purple in the morning, blue in the afternoon, and orange in the evening. Just like that, one, two, three, four."

"I'm somebody now, Harry. Everybody likes me. Soon, millions of people will see me and they'll all like me. I'll tell them about you, and your father, how good he was to us. Remember? It's a reason to get up in the morning. It's a reason to lose weight, to fit in the red dress. It's a reason to smile. It makes tomorrow all right. What have I got Harry, hm? Why should I even make the bed, or wash the dishes? I do them, but why should I? I'm alone. Your father's gone, you're gone. I got no one to care for. What have I got, Harry? I'm lonely. I'm old.
You got friends, Ma. "

The pretentiously titled "REQUIEM FOR A DREAM" is a movie that is dark, depressing, achingly dreary and laughably awful at every turn. It is like watching a drunk or an addict wallowing in self pity, only to have him interrupt his moaning and groaning with fits of uncontrollable laughter. You don't know whether to pity him, laugh at him or just smile and slowly back away. Nowhere else will you find a movie so self-consciously solemn and meticulously constructed, yet so hysterically out of control.

Lastly, the direction of Aronofsky, brilliant, beautiful, empathic. There are not enough words to describe his direction or this movie and I think the best way to say it is that I am speechless. Aronofsky has shown me that, jaded by so many movies, something can still prompt me to sit up and take notice. To see something that I have never seen before or learn something I don't already know. The ending, is sheer power. A masterpiece of all the elements of what movie making is about, mixed together in some sick souffle and thrown into your face, burning hot and scalding. The movie leaves a deep impression, in fact, a huge scar. And it is a scar I am proud to wear.

7. Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels (1998)

***Brilliant Script, Brilliant Cinematography And Brilliant Movies***

"A Disgrace to Criminals Everywhere."

"They lost half a million at cards but they've still got a few tricks up their sleeve."

"Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" is one of those movies that I can watch x number of times and still enjoy it as much as I did in the first viewing. This is pretty much what an action gangster flick should be like. It has all the required ingredients. The action, humour, drama and suspense balance extremely well. Ritchie's writing and direction are excellent as not only does the movie keep one at the edge of his/her seat but the characters (including minor ones) are rich. They're over-the-top but that only works for the movie. While the bad guys think they're powerful and all, they're actually portrayed as dumb and the good guys think they're clever and have all the answers to their problems when they're actually not so bright. The characters are portrayed as cool yet they end up getting caught in a mess.

"Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" is one of the coolest "gangster" flicks. A must watch for those who love action movies that have both substance and entertainment.

6. Bicycle Thieves (1948)

***A Heartbreaking Masterpiece Of The Italian Neo-Realism***

"You Live And You Suffer"

"Why should I kill myself working when I'll end up just as dead?"

"There's a cure for everything except death."

Bicycle Thieves perform the A central function of art, which is to discover the meaning of life. The movie brilliantly handles with utmost care and precision the tender and Often painful relationship that universally exists between a father and a son. The later half of the movie presents cinema at its most vivid, Vituperative and volatile culminating in one of the most impactful, Melancholic and brutally humanistic finales ever filmed in cinematic history, the agony of which would keep the viewer contemplating for Weeks, months, or even years.

The screenplay is simplistic, thought-provoking and at times nakedly Brutal, while the cinematography is so effortless and magnificent Beautiful that it appears as though a soul of a man has been filmed, And its true essence has been captured and preserved.

It is a cinematic magnum opus, which accentuates the true might of Cinema, and is a must for everyone, irrespective of cast, color, creed Or gender. It's an ageless cinema for people of all age groups.
